Shawn Kinkelaar says that the most rewarding aspect of his job is getting a dog to reach its full potential and a client's satisfaction when they find out they had won a major championship.
CARSON, ND, January 24, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shawn Kinkelaar has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
As a young man growing up in Effingham Illinois, Shawn Kinkelaar was introduced to the world of upland bird hunting by his grandfather and uncle. This young, tough, gritty and hardworking young man developed a love for watching field dogs follow their natural instinct to hunt. By the time he was 17 years old, he knew this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life - to be a professional field dog handler and trainer.
Fortunate to have several people and mentors, such as top field trainers from the 80's and 90's, Shawn acquired a solid business acumen for establishing a great reputation as a professional trial dog handler.
It wasn't long before Shawn took the position of an owner in that marketplace who ran a professional sport team. He will be the first to tell you that you have to be comfortable leading from the front, and develop a process for success, a process that includes equipment. You operate to the dogs that drive them. Second, in order to build a successful team of champions, you are the principal partner of a winning team. That team consists primarily of the customer (dog's owner) and Shawn leads his team as a GM, coach, trainer, handler and even animal therapist to field medical doctor for professional athletes (field dogs) working in the field. It is very often you will hear Shawn say, "No other professional sport offers more nature than field dog trialing." So many variables must happen with a successful team, which includes owners, dogs, trainer, handler, horses and let us not forget Mother Nature always working for you or against you. Strategy is one of the most important aspects of a successful dog trialing team. This is where Shawn excels by knowing the right dogs for the right terrain to win, doing right by the owner and most important, the dogs themselves.
For the last 30 years, Shawn has become one of the most prolific professional dog trainers and handlers in the country. Beyond regular weekly publications in American Field magazines, books, videos. Shawn continues to break records and shows no slowing down. As of 2019, recognitions are:
• 5 Time Winner National Handler of the Year 2019
• 11 Time National Shooting Dog Year Awards (most all time)
• 8 Time Record-breaking US Invitational Wins (most all time)
• 150 Shooting Dog Championship Wins (second most of all time)
• 3 English Setter National Awards
Shawn's success is owed to several different attributes with the most important one being attitude. That "never die" competitiveness comes out in every dog trial that Shawn works to win each week. The second, understanding to whom the credit is due, is to the dogs themselves. He recalls his first great English Pointer, Elhew Sunflower and the great champions to follow all had a great heart to win with superior intelligence; it was these champions that highlighted what it means to have a great dog. Shawn continues to say that the most rewarding aspect of his job is getting a dog to reach its full potential and a client's satisfaction when they find out they had won a major championship. The final attribute is being able to recognize a winning sports team's philosophy along with a winning dog and a winning team.
It is this philosophy that Shawn is anxious to share with everyone. A legacy of one of the greatest sports in the world, and Shawn works tiredly to share, train anyone and anywhere about his approach in hopes that more young people will watch dogs work in the field.
