Gloria O. Wright, MSW, CSW, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Prior to her retirement, Ms. Wright excelled as a youth-in-custody worker for the Davis County School District in Farmington, Utah, from 1985 to 1988. Previously, she worked as an alternatives counselor for the Davis County Council on Aging in Farmington from 1984 to 1985. She began her career as a project director for the Davis County Parent Education Resource Center in Farmington in 1984. Moreover, Ms. Wright is the business owner of Adventures in Living in Kaysville, Utah, and Mesa, Arizona. She has traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Israel, Egypt and Samoa.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Wright pursued an education at Weber State College (now University) earning a Bachelor of Science in family relations, magna cum laude, in 1981. She minored in social work, anthropology, and gerontology. She concluded her studies at the University of Utah in 1983, graduating with a Master of Social Work. Following these accomplishments, Ms. Wright obtained her certification to practice as a social worker.

Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Wright has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. A noteworthy speaker, she has conducted presentations at multiple local, regional and national conferences. She did practicums as an adjunct professor at Weber State College, and as a social work counselor at the Davis County Hospital in Layton, Utah. She taught with the LDS Church Education System for the Brigham Young University Education Weeks.

In 1978, Ms. Wright was active as the district secretary for the Davis County Parent-Teacher Association. She was a past member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and maintains her involvement with the Republican Party.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Wright has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. In 1980 and 1981, she was presented with the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in Gerontology. Subsequently, she was selected for inclusion in the 21st edition of Who's Who in the West, which was published in 1987. Ms. Wright attributes her success to her faith and her family, which includes her late husband (James Owen Wright), 6 children, 27 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Initially drawn to her field due to her love of learning and people alike, Ms. Wright is pleased with her endeavors in writing her book "Adventures in Living," in which she covered such important topics as defeating depression and living with joy. An avid traveler, she has lived within and visited countries across the globe alongside her husband, a former staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force with whom she conducted much philanthropic work for their church.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she has served in the Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, and Young Women organizations as a teacher, secretary, counselor, and president. She and her husband served a 14-month church mission to Samoa.

Following her husband's passing, she has traveled with her children to Hawaii, England, Scotland, and Ireland. Looking toward to the future, Ms. Wright hopes to continue her legacy as an example of the learning and love that she gave and received from others. The topics that have been of special interest to her are autism, primitive religions, and the value of children and their treatment throughout history and cultures.
