Dr. McInturff is renowned as a physicist and professor with more than 55 years of distinction in his discipline. He initially pursued an education at Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1959, and hoped to become a high school sports coach before a knee injury forced him to refocus his ambitions. Dr. McInturff continued his studies at Vanderbilt University, where he obtained a Master of Science in 1960 and a Doctor of Philosophy in high-energy physics in 1964.
From 1960 to 1966, Dr. McInturff began his career as a graduate research assistant in the synchrotron laboratory at the California Institute of Technology. Completing a postdoctoral research fellowship at Vanderbilt University from 1964 to 1966, he was designated as an Atomic Energy Commission special fellow from 1961 to 1964. Working as a senior research engineer for North American Aviation from 1966 to 1967, Dr. McInturff was subsequently active as a physicist with the Brookhaven National Laboratory from 1967 to 1980 and the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory from 1980 to 1992.
From 1992 to 1993, Dr. McInturff worked as a senior scientist for Superconducting Super Collider Laboratories in Waxahachie, TX. He further excelled as a physicist at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab from 1993 to 2014, and a professor of physics at the Graduate School at Texas A&M University from 2004 to 2017. The author of chapters in two professional books and more than 200 papers in professional journals, Dr. McInturff holds two patents in his field.
Dr. McInturff's research focuses on the design and construction of superconductor materials and quadrupole magnet systems for use in particle accelerators. He has been recognized as a visiting scientist to the Rutherford Laboratory and served as a scientific attache to the European Organization of Nuclear Research during the late 1980s.
