Dr. McLeod is an internist who practiced medicine and taught academia in Nashville, Tennessee, for more than 30 years. In private practice between 1967 and 1999, he was also aligned with Vanderbilt University as a clinical professor of medicine and clinical professor of medical administration. During his tenure, he flourished as an adjunct professor of management and faculty coordinator of health care management within the university's Owen Graduate School of Management. Dr. McLeod was officially bestowed with the distinguished title of a professor emeritus in 2002.
Dr. McLeod also excelled as a health insurance and internal medicine student health service consultant for Vanderbilt University. He was also a member of the board of directors for National Security Alliance, Inc. He conducted an extensive amount of research in his field. As a result, he has authored and co-authored numerous scholarly articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. McLeod had the opportunity to present many of his papers before various professional organizations as well.
A visionary and leader behind numerous community initiatives, Dr. McLeod notably garnered a laudable reputation on the board of directors of Skye Terrier Foundation and the Nashville Symphony, was a trustee and chairman of the Dunvegan Foundation, as well as a trustee of the Friends of Heard Library at Vanderbilt University. He was also a board member of the Middle Tennessee Partnership of Internal Medicine. Very involved with St. George's Episcopalian Church as a committee member, vestryman and junior warden, Dr. McLeod was also active with the Westminster Presbyterian Church as a liturgy committee member and music committee member.
To prepare for his career, Dr. McLeod received a Bachelor of Arts at the prestigious Princeton University in 1956. He later completed postgraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University between 1959 and 1960 before acquiring a Doctor of Medicine at Duke University in 1960 and a Master of Business Administration at Vanderbilt University in 1988. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and residency in medicine and neurology and fellowship in cardiology at Vanderbilt University Hospital. Dr. McLeod is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a flight surgeon between 1962 and 1964.
Dr. McLeod is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and member of the Nashville Academy of Medicine, the Tennessee Medical Association and the American College of Physician Executives. Outside of his industry related organizations, he is a life member of the Society of Scottish Armigers and the Scottish Society of Middle Tennessee and a life member and past president of the Clan MacLeod Society, among other affiliations. Honored 10 times over with a Physician's Achievement Award from the American Medical Association between 1971 and 1999, Dr. McLeod is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been highlighted in close to 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
