Detail-oriented and passionate about chemistry since his childhood, he initially pursued an education at Tamkang University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1971. He continued his studies at the University of Texas, graduating with a Master of Science in chemistry in 1977. Subsequently, Dr. Chiang obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in polymer science and engineering from Case Western Reserve University in 1981.
From 1980 to 2007, Dr. Chiang excelled as a senior scientist for Sherwin-Williams. Since 2007, he has found success as the director of Foxconn International Company, an electronics manufacturer specializing in cell phones. During his tenure at Foxconn, Dr. Chiang was responsible for the development of the iPhone 3 back case logo design, as well as the development of durable surface coatings for several other popular phone models.
In addition to his work on cell phone surfaces, Dr. Chiang has developed ceramic coatings for use in aerospace applications, including a camouflage coating for aircraft. Holding more than 180 patents in his field, he was presented with the Research & Development Award from Sherwin-Williams for his innovations in polymer chemistry in 1988. Moreover, Dr. Chiang is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Coating Technology Association as well as the chairman of the Chinese Professional and Academic Association of the Midwest.
