Ms. Duell is renowned as a certified public accountant in the state of Colorado with more than 20 years of specialty in oil and gas corporate and operational accounting and management consulting. She completed the University of Pittsburgh's "Semester at Sea" World Studies Program in 1996. Ms. Duell then obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus in accounting at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1997 while beginning her career as a work-study student in the role of accounting technician for University Management Systems. She capped off her academic efforts with a Master of Science in Accounting at the University of Colorado Denver in 2002.
Beginning in 1997, Ms. Duell found success as she worked her way up from full-charge bookkeeper to the corporate controller of a family owned oil and gas company. In 2006, she accepted the role of corporate controller for the SEC-regulated company PRB Energy, headquartered in Denver, where she played a major role in transitioning the company from a gas-gathering business to an upstream gas operator in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. Ms. Duell then leveraged her expertise in working with Denver-area energy clients to establish her private practice, Duell & Associates LLC, in 2007. She flourished in this venture as she helped clients address their energy accounting challenges until 2010, at which point she accepted the post of manager of Joint Accounting Services for SM Energy Company, where she worked until 2013.
Starting in 2013, Ms. Duell excelled as a managing consultant for Hein & Associates' energy practice. After the firm merged with Moss Adams, she continued providing value for clients as a consulting manager. In 2018, she gained significant leadership experience after accepting the position of director of operational accounting for Carbon Energy Corporation. In 2019 Ms. Duell signed on as a director at BKD CPAs & Advisors, where she offers expertise and valuable insights for clients in the energy sector.
Ms. Duell has numerous accomplishments, including receiving several honors from the Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies, where she has held a variety of leadership roles. She was honored among the Denver Business Journal's 2015 Top 40 Women in Energy and Who's Who in Energy and is a contributor to the Women's Foundation of Colorado. She also contributed as an adjunct instructor of accounting at the Metropolitan State College in Denver in 2005. In 2020 she plans on serving the Colorado Chamber of Commerce on the Energy & Environmental Council.
