Jill Ryan, currently the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, began her career as a residential treatment counselor at Alternative Homes for Youth in 1991, rising to the rank of assistant director of the emancipation program in 1994. In 1995, she started working as a teen outreach specialist at the Jefferson County Department of Public Health. Ms. Ryan leveraged her experience, accepting a position as an administrative program specialist with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in 1997, and transitioned to the role of both health planner and program director in 1999. In 2004, she became the public health manager of Eagle County, Colorado, where she served until 2009, and then started as a principal at Silver Street Consulting. Ms. Ryan returned to public administration in 2013, acting as the Eagle County commissioner until 2019.
Ms. Ryan earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology from the University of Colorado in 1991, and continued her academic pursuits at the University of Northern Colorado earning an MPH in 1998. She is the author of the reports: "Profile of Health Disparities Among Communities of Color" (2001) and "Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities in Colorado" (2004, 2005). From 2013 to 2016, Ms. Ryan served in an appointed role to the Colorado Board of Health, and from 2001 to 2004, she served as an appointee on the Colorado Commission on Indian Affairs. As a testament to her success and stature, Ms. Ryan has been featured in the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders, the third edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.
