Dr. William Read Bush developed his lifelong love of invention at an early age, going on to specialize in computer science. In higher education he pursued studies in several computing-related areas, receiving an AB from Harvard College in 1972, and an M.S. in 1985 and a Ph.D. in 1992, both from the University of California at Berkeley. He also obtained a J.D. from Boston University in 1977.
Since 2014, Dr. Bush has been a consulting computer scientist at Singapore-based computer security company D'Crypt Pte Ltd. Prior to his time at D'Crypt, Dr. Bush held several positions in the Silicon Valley computer industry. He served as the director of engineering at Movious and senior computer scientist at both Kestrel Technology and Sun Microsystems Laboratories. In 1994, he founded Intrinsa Corp., serving as principal scientist.
Before that, Dr. Bush spent a decade working at the University of California, Berkeley, as a teaching assistant, graduate assistant, and postgraduate researcher, all in computer science. From 1973 to 1977 he was a member of the technical staff at Computer Corporation of America in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and from 1977 to 1982 he was a senior research programmer at Harvard University.
Dr. Bush's achievements include an early implementation of cloud storage in 1973 and a new way of analyzing computer software that discovers hard-to-find errors. Microsoft used this analyzer to find 30,000 errors in the source code of Windows 2000, which led to the acquisition of the technology by Microsoft. Also, in collaboration with a colleague at Sun Microsystems, Dr. Bush created the KVM Java implementation for small devices. The KVM technology evolved into Java Platform, Micro Edition, which has been deployed on billions of devices.
