In his civic endeavors, he has volunteered as a hand surgeon for the Chinle Comprehensive Care Facility in Chinle, AZ. Likewise, he excels as the co-chair of the Native American health service committee for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and as a question writer for the self-assessment committee for the same organization. In 2003, Dr. Kessler notably undertook a medical mission to the African countries of Uganda and Kenya.
Before embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Kessler pursued a formal education at the CUNY School of Medicine's Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biomedical science in 2002. He continued his studies at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, earning a Master of Public Health in 2004. Dr. Kessler concluded his academic efforts in 2005, having graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College. Certified as a hand surgeon and a medical education researcher, Dr. Kessler has been licensed to practice medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, as well as by the District of Columbia and the state of Maryland.
To remain aware of developments within his field, Dr. Kessler has maintained his professional affiliation with various organizations of note, including the Georgetown University Medical Center Teaching Academy, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, the Washington D.C. Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Medical Society of the District of Columbia and the American Orthopedic Association, for which he has participated on the council of residency directors.
