As a young child growing up in Nigeria, Dr. Ojukwu was fascinated by glasses; she even fooled her mother into believing she needed them. After her mother brought her to a London-trained ophthalmologist, she received a pair of glasses without a prescription. Once she had graduated from high school, Dr. Ojukwu's mother suggested that she pursue optometry as a career.
At the beginning of her career, Dr. Ojukwu practiced in Africa for about four years, treating and managing tropical ocular diseases. She also served as an assistant to the registrar of ODORBN. Subsequently, Dr. Ojukwu relocated to the United States, where she began working as an optometrist assistant for Kaiser Permanente Vision Center in Washington, D.C.
Over the years, Dr. Ojukwu has also gained valuable expertise as an independent doctor of optometry for Walmart Vision Center in Waldorf. Today, she excels as an optometrist and the chief executive officer of Chika Eye Care, where she specializes in refraction and the treatment of minor ocular diseases. Backed by her considerable expertise, Chika Eye Care has become renowned as one of the leading eye care centers in Southern Maryland.
An expert in her field, Dr. Ojukwu earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Benin in 1989. She subsequently obtained her doctoral degree from ABIA State University in Nigeria in 1993. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she is affiliated with the Maryland Optometric Association, the Maryland Optometric Society and the American Optometric Association. Devoted to her community, she contributes to those in need as a volunteer through the State Department of Social Services and the Men's Group of Ebenezer Church. Looking toward the future, Dr. Ojukwu aims to experience the continued success of her career while branching out into treating glaucoma.
