Dr. Mary Larrabee was honored to be selected by her peers and the academic administration to the Society for Vincent de Paul Professors in 2004.

Dr. Larrabee is known as a philosophy professor with more than 40 years of excellence in her field. She initially pursued an education at Holy Names College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. She subsequently obtained a Master of Arts at Indiana University Bloomington in 1969 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1973 at the University of Toronto (Canada).
In 1977, Dr. Larrabee began her career with DePaul University as an assistant professor of philosophy and remains there still, having been an associate professor in 1981 and then promoted in 1994 to professor. From 1985 to 1990, Dr. Larrabee helped establish, and became the director of the Women's Studies program at DePaul University (now the Women and Gender Studies B.A. program), and from 2006 to 2019 helped establish and then direct the Peace, Justice, and Conflict B.A. program. Her other service work includes fifteen years with the University Faculty Council as elected member, Secretary, and President, as well as, since 2010, workshops on trauma awareness and resilience with organizations in Haiti and Chicago's Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation and its service through the Chicago Roman Catholic Archdiocese to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.
The editor of An Ethic of Care in 1993, Dr. Larrebee is a frequent contributor of articles to professional journals. She has been certified by The International Focusing Institute as a Certifying Coordinator, and is an active member of the Husserl Circle, the Society for Phenomenology and Human Sciences, the Pacific Association for Continental Thought, the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy, and the Society for Buddhist and Christian Studies. Recent presentations include a paper for the conference, "Husserl in Japan," co-sponsored by Shizuoka University and the University of Nebraska Omaha, May 2019, and one for the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii Honolulu in May 2020. For her wide-ranging scholarly contributions, teaching strengths, and service commitments, Dr. Larrabee was honored to be selected by her peers and the academic administration to the Society for Vincent de Paul Professors in 2004.
