Karin Swildens' art expresses commonly lived experience through her own vocabulary of shapes
LOS ANGELES, CA, February 26, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Karin Swildens with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Swildens celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having accrued over 30 years of experience in various artistic disciplines, Ms. Swildens has distinguished herself as a skillful illustrator and sculptor. Born in the Netherlands and raised in Morocco, she drew great inspiration from her own father, who made his career as an artist/designer, fine art painter and interior decorator. In her 20s, Ms. Swildens undertook coursework at the National Higher School of Decorative Arts in Paris, and worked on art restorations for paintings at the Louvre Museum. Likewise, she found success as a children's magazine illustrator, wrote and illustrated for the children's book "Poutou et Pitchoun," and designed scarves for the fashion company Hermès.
Following her relocation to Los Angeles in 1980, Ms. Swildens discovered an affinity for wood sculptures, and saw the craft as a way to see and touch the other side of her paintings. She focused on clay shortly thereafter, and has excelled in ceramic sculpting ever since. Ms. Swildens' art expresses commonly lived experience through her own vocabulary of shapes: Women for feelings, Horses for strength and intuition, carved Eggs for new beginnings, Art Deco for discipline and rigor and Erotic works for humor. Her work has been featured in a number of exhibitions and venues, including the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts in 2019, the McGroarty Arts Center over numerous years, the Napa Hall Gallery at California State University Channel Islands in 2016, the Hamilton Galleries in 2015, the Del Mano Gallery in 2013 and the Tribe and Folk Art Gallery in 2012, to name only a scant few.
Well-regarded in her field, Ms. Swildens' art has been lauded as the Best of Show at the Beatrice Wood Ceramic Art Show, and has won her such accolades as the Daumier Sculpture Award in 1993. What's more, she has had her work featured prominently on the reality show "Below Deck" on the Bravo television network. To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Swildens avidly maintains her professional affiliation with the American Ceramic Society of Southern California, as well as with the Los Angeles Accueil. Outside of her vocation, she enjoys such diversions as admiring the work of her contemporary artists, reading books and playing with her grandson.
