Ms. Gainsburg is renowned as a sculptor and teacher with more than 55 years of practice. She identifies as a self-taught sculptor, and has completed undergraduate coursework and studio classes working in 3D media. She also spent time carving stone in Italy near the quarries of Michelangelo in Pietrasanta, Italy.
Prior to beginning her career in the fine arts, Ms. Gainsburg worked as a medical technician in Albert Einstein Hospital, Temple University Medical School, and the National Institutes of Health between 1962 and 1968.
After attending an art class as a young adult, Ms. Gainsburg discovered a great interest in clay sculpture creating the human form from live models. She maintained this hobby until a mentor suggested she try her hand at stone carving. Her stone teacher encouraged her to move into abstract expression for he felt she had mastered the human form. Since the 1980's she has dedicated her focus toward creating works in stone, and instructing others using the direct carving technique. Her focus has been with students who had no previous artistic training. She has now been teaching for 38 years with great success.
In 1988 she was commissioned by the National Foundation of Infectious Diseases to create an award to be given out yearly for those who have contributed to this specialty of medicine and philanthropy. The award was presented for 17 years.
Notably, Ms. Gainsburg's work is represented in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Europe and South Africa.
Additionally, Ms. Gainsburg authored her autobiography, Worldbridger: A Sculpted Life in 2018. In 2020 she will be featured in a book New Jersey Masters, The New Legacy of Visual Artists.
She is active in a number of charitable initiatives including fundraising efforts for the ALS Association and the Jewish Federation. Likewise, Ms. Gainsburg is a certified flower essence practitioner and healer and was a member of the New Jersey Sculptors Association before she moved west in 2005.
