Dr. Wendy Slatkin distinguished herself as an art historian, researcher, and educator with the California Polytechnic University in Pomona
UPLAND, CA, March 02, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Wendy Slatkin, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Slatkin celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A nationally recognized expert in the field of gender studies, Dr. Slatkin likewise distinguished herself as an art historian, researcher, and educator with the California Polytechnic University in Pomona before her retirement in 2015. Teaching various courses on campus, including one titled Gender and Art, she likewise taught all three sections of Western Art History Survey. Dr. Slatkin formerly held appointments at the University of Redlands, the University of California and Rutgers University and was a guest curator at the Riverside Art Museum, a nonprofit art museum in the historic Mission Inn District of Riverside.
A prolific author, Dr. Slatkin's first book, "Aristide Maillol in the 1890s," was published in 1982. Shortly thereafter, she released the highly successful textbook "Women Artists in History: From Antiquity to the 20th Century" through Prentice Hall in 1985, which is now in its fifth edition. She also authored "The Voices of Women Artists" in 1993, which reprints a variety of primary source documents with annotations and introductions relevant to women artists active from 1600 to present time. Her most recent book, "In Her Own Words: A Primary Sourcebook of Autobiographical Texts by Women Artists from the 19th and 20th Centuries," (First Edition 2010, Second Edition 2020) serves as a sourcebook of autobiographical texts, including letters, journal entries and retrospective life narratives of women artists from the 19th century to the contemporary era. Dr. Slatkin has contributed chapters to several books by other authors as well, authored or co-authored several articles in various peer-reviewed journals and is currently collaborating with several local museums to design a flexible structure for a book, which will hopefully serve as a model for small regional collections.
Dr. Slatkin received a Bachelor of Arts at Barnard College in New York in 1970. Traveling to Florence, Italy, she completed a Master of Arts at Villa Schifanoia in 1971. Finally, in 1976, she acquired a Doctor of Philosophy in late 19th and 20th century French painting and sculpture at the University of Pennsylvania. To remain aware of developments in her field, Dr. Slatkin is an active member of the College of Art Association of America, the principal organization in the U.S. for professionals in the visual arts, from students to art historians and emeritus faculty.
