The founder and president of David's Drive 831 since 2010, Mr. Turner has earned distinction for his singular focus in upholding the honor of his late son's service to his country. David Jr. worked at the Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center and, with immense respect for the veterans he served, had a vision to further assist veterans who were struggling with illness or homelessness. However, he tragically passed away at the age of 20 due to a suspected heart arrhythmia. In 2010, Mr. Turner revived his son's dream and made it into a reality. Since its inception, David's Drive 831 has donated more than a million dollar worth of goods and services to southeastern Pennsylvania Veterans.
For his achievements via David's Drive 831, Mr. Turner has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. Most recently he received the 2018 National George Washington Award and a Certificate of Achievement from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. He was further bestowed with a Distinguished Service Award in 2014 from the Military Order of the Purple Heart of Valley Forge Chapter 1777, as well as the Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award in 2017 and the Hazel P. Harnish Award for Volunteering Excellence in 2018 from the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Coatesville VA Medical Center. Additionally, Mr. Turner has been recognized and commended by numerous community officials for his work.
