Dr. Okechukwu Chigozie Ifediora is the recipient of the Nigerian Medical Association Prize, a Nigerian National Merit Award, and an American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award.

A nephrologist and educator with nearly 40 years of experience in his field, Dr. Ifediora has found success as a consultant on behalf of Renal Associates in Monroe since 1997. As the eldest child in his family, he was driven to succeed as a top professional in order to gain respect for himself and his family. He attended Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, earning a Bachelor of Science with honors in 1978, and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1981. To continue his medical training, Dr. Ifediora relocated to the United States in 1986.
From 1981 until 1982, Dr. Ifediora undertook an internship at the General Hospital in Onitsha, Nigeria, and subsequently became a medical officer at the Apex Medical Center in Igbo-Ukwu, Nigeria. Dr. Ifediora would remain with the Apex Medical Center until he migrated to the United States in 1986. Between 1987 and 1990, Dr. Ifediora completed a second residency at Harlem Hospital in New York, and conducted a fellowship in nephrology at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia from 1990 to 1992.
Whilst serving as a consultant, Dr. Ifediora was also vice president of Renal Associates of Monroe. In addition to his clinical work, he worked as an adjunct assistant clinical faculty at Louisiana State University from 1993 until 2003. His work on topics in hemodialysis has been published in journals including ASAIO Transactions and Clinical Nephrology. Dr. Ifediora has been active in efforts to provide rural healthcare services to Anambra state, Nigeria, since 2002, including the establishment of the area's first hemodialysis facility in 2003.
Among many other honors, Dr. Ifediora is the recipient of the Nigerian Medical Association Prize, a Nigerian National Merit Award, and an American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award. He was elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1996, an accomplishment that he considers to be a career highlight and validation for his continued study in the United States. Dr. Ifediora is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Nephrology.
