A celebrated nurse with more than 45 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Wishnia began her career as an assistant head nurse at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City from 1955 to 1957. She subsequently excelled as a staff nurse with the Old Bridge Sayreville Medical Group in Old Bridge, NJ, from 1957 until 1994. Ms. Wishnia further flourished as a sanitary inspector for the Township of Old Bridge between 1979 and her retirement in 2000.
Initially introduced to the health care department while conducting part-time field work for her bachelor's degree, Ms. Wishnia thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity and accepted a full-time position as a city official after her graduation. With the understanding that she would still pursue a second career in nursing, she became licensed as a nurse in New York and New Jersey. Notably, Ms. Wishnia obtained a diploma from the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in1955 and a Bachelor of Arts in health science, magna cum laude, from Jersey City State College in 1976.
As a nurse, Ms. Wishnia had enjoyed many years of caring for those who could not take care of themselves. She especially enjoyed her efforts at Mount Sinai Hospital, during which time she worked with patients in the polio ward.
