He contributed for several years as a partner at various other firms, including as the director and executive vice president of Health America Corporation, which was a NYSE listed company, and as the senior vice president and general counsel of Hospital Affiliates International, Inc., also a NYSE listed company that operated and managed approximately 200 hospitals in the U.S. and abroad. Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is notably a national law firm with 10 offices across Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and D.C. Founded in 1870, the firm provides business clients around the world with a full suite of legal services in dozens of industries and practice areas.
During his illustrious career, some of Mr. Gillmor's career highlights have included negotiating the acquisition of over 100 hospitals, nursing homes, HMOs and physician practice groups. He also enjoyed many years negotiating financial arrangements to fund the acquisitions and the subsequent operations of the facilities. Mr. Gillmor's interest and involvement in his community has led him to serve as the president of the board of trustees of the University School of Nashville and as a member of the boards of directors of the Nashville Opera Association, the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra, Hoosier Care Inc., and several other organizations. He also founded several successful boutique law firms catering to the alumni of Hospital Affiliates and Health America.
A graduate of Swarthmore College, Mr. Gillmor received a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. Shortly thereafter, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed a Bachelor of Laws, cum laude, in 1962. He then served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963 to 1966 with service in Vietnam before returning to civilian life as a captain. Mr. Gillmor has notably been admitted to practice by the Pennsylvania, Tennessee, New York and D.C. Bar Associations.
Aligned with several industry related organizations, Mr. Gillmor is a member of the American Bar Association, the City Bar Association of New York, the Nashville Bar Foundation and the Tennessee Bar Association. He is also a member and former chairman of the continuing legal education committee of the Nashville Bar Association. Mr. Gillmore has been named to Best Lawyers in America for Health Care Law every year since 1993 and to the Expert Guide as a Leading U.S. Health Care Lawyer.
