Dr. Danzl is renowned as an emergency physician and a professor at the University of Louisville. He initially pursued an education at the University of Cincinnati, graduating with a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in 1972. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine at the Ohio State University in 1976. Likewise, Dr. Danzl is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
From 1976 to 1977, Dr. Danzl completed an internship in emergency medicine at the Saint Francis Medical Center at the University of Illinois. He later began his career at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, flourishing as the chief resident from 1978 to 1979, an assistant professor of emergency medicine from 1979 to 1983, an associate professor from 1983 to 1989 and a professor since 1989. Additionally, Dr. Danzl has served the aforementioned university as the chair of the department of emergency medicine and an associate of the surgery department since 1991.
Previously, Dr. Danzl was active as the medical director of the City of Louisville Emergency Medical Services and a president of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is also active as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Emergency Medicine and the editor of several textbooks, including "Rosen's Emergency Medicine: Concepts and Clinical Practice" in 2002 and "Emergency Medicine: Concepts and Clinical Practice" in 1998. Notably, Dr. Danzl's research focuses on hypothermia, and he has contributed his wealth of knowledge to numerous chapters for books and articles for peer-reviewed publications.
Among many other accolades, Dr. Danzl has been designated as a Master of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He was additionally presented with a Heroes of Emergency Medicine Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians in 2008. Looking toward the future, Dr. Danzl hopes to obtain emeritus status from the University of Louisville in 2020 while continuing to teach and publish in a part-time capacity.
