In recognition of her achievements in her field, Mrs. Deborah Gulick Shepherd received a Governor's Teacher Recognition Award by the State of New Jersey in 1991.

Having retired from her tenured position as an elementary school teacher with the Mount Olive Township Board of Education in 2009, Mrs. Shepherd taught on behalf of the district for more than 30 years. During her career, she held positions at CMS Elementary School, Mountainview Elementary and Sandshore Elementary. Aligned with several industry-related organizations during her teaching career, Mrs. Shepherd has been a member of the National Education Association and a member and former building representative and officer of the Education Association of Mount Olive. She is currently active as a member of the Morris County Council of Retired Educators Association and the New Jersey Retired Educators Association.
Lending her time and expertise to her community, Mrs. Shepherd served as an editor for the First Presbyterian Church newsletter in Hackettstown, Light from the Steeple, from 1998 to 2010, and found success as the editor of the Mountain View News newsletter between 1986 and 1997. Her involvement with the church also included as the Sunday school treasurer between 1996 and 2000. She is currently a member of the senior choir, the organizer of Yarn Girls, the church historian, a Sunday school teacher and the financial secretary. Mrs. Shepherd formerly served on the board of directors of the Heaven Sent Nursery School and remains active with the Sussex County Oratorio Society as well.
Mrs. Shepherd received an Associate of Arts at Centenary University in 1974. Shortly thereafter, she acquired a Bachelor of Arts at Oral Roberts University in 1976 and a Master of Arts at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1981. Certified as an elementary and middle school teacher in New Jersey, Mrs. Shepherd is likewise licensed as a K-12 supervisor. In recognition of her achievements in her field, she received a Governor's Teacher Recognition Award by the State of New Jersey in 1991. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mrs. Shepherd has been included in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who of American Women.
