Looking toward the future. George William Fletcher aims to use his experience to help further NASA's goals for future manned spaceflights.
HOUSTON, TX, March 06, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- George William Fletcher has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Having received an opportunity to join the Boeing Company during his senior year in college, Mr. Fletcher has garnered a laudable reputation in the field of engineering. He subsequently worked as a system safety lead engineer, and an information specialist on behalf of the Calspan Corporation between 1990 and 1995. Accepting similar positions with GHG Corporation from 1995 to 2011, he supported NASA's successful Space Shuttle program. Mr. Fletcher next gained valuable expertise in the field as a process safety engineer with Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals. Returning to NASA support in 2017, he has excelled as a senior Government Furnished Equipment safety engineer for SAIC supporting NASA's Orion program.
In pursuit of his career in engineering, Mr. Fletcher earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering technology from Texas Tech University in 1973 and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Houston in 1985.
He remains active in community involvement as a member and former president of the Clear Lake Amateur Radio Club, through which he was twice honored with the Amateur Radio Operator of the Year Award. Through his work with amateur radio, Mr. Fletcher supports the BP MS-150 bike ride from Houston to Austin as well as countless other public service events. Additionally, he is the longest serving amateur radio emergency service coordinator in Southeast Harris County, Texas, through which he has coordinated the efforts of 100-plus amateur radio operators in times of communications emergencies. He also contributes as an active member of the Church of Christ by using his talents, skills, and resources to helping others.
Due to his range of professional achievements, Mr. Fletcher has been honored on numerous occasions, earning the Silver Snoopy Award through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This award is given to less than 2% of the contractor workforce for an outstanding achievement in a particular field or endeavor. He received his Silver Snoopy because of his work reviewing radiographs of the NASA Standard Initiator - an explosive device. Based on his valued safety support he was also nominated for NASA's prestigious Manned Spaceflight Awareness award in addition to numerous other individual and group achievement awards.
