WEST COLUMBIA, SC, March 06, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Daniel O. Smith has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Daniel O. Smith has 50 years of acquired knowledge in industrial engineering. This knowledge encompasses the installation, specification and design of extreme thermal refractory and industrial thermal systems in relation to serving the following industries: power generation, pulp & paper, refining, plastics and petro-chemicals.
This highly specialized field was a "family business". Mr. Smith's step-father, uncles and kinsmen had entered "the trade" in The United States Navy during WWII. They maintained the boilers and steam systems that powered and operated every aspect of the Navy's war ships. Each war ship required boilers, steam driven turbines and miles of steam piping. What "swung" those "big guns"? Steam! Steam meant boilers and piping. Boilers and piping meant firebrick, refractory, and pipe insulation. During war, that meant constant maintenance, or "You were dead in the water" and literally "sunk". After the war, "the family business" went ashore to follow "the trade," into coal, gas and oil powerhouses. Again, boilers, turbines and miles of steam piping were required, but no one was shooting 16-inch shells at you.
Originally, Mr. Smith went to college to become a mechanical engineer, but during summer break one year, his uncle asked him to come to a "new powerhouse" to "help out." He never returned to college and stayed in "the family business", working on project sites, up through the ranks, from foreman, to job supervisor, and finally project superintendent. Then into "the office" where he became an estimator, project manager, and finally international project manager on large projects overseas. After the older family members retired, he "stayed in the trade" working in the office for several large firms as an estimator, consultant, project manager, and VP/branch manager. Finally, he opened his own company to supply pre-fabricated high temperature removable insulation systems for use in plants nationally and overseas.
In a career filled with highlights, Mr. Smith is especially proud of working as an instructor under an international program known as Train the Trainers. A member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, he intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
