With a PhD, two Masters Degrees and specialty work globally, she holds the unique distinction as both Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Parapsychologist. She is also California board-certified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and holds separate certifications in Somatic Sexology and Medical Hypnosis.
Dr. Hedva has held faculty appointments teaching courses at John F. Kennedy University's prestigious Department of Consciousness Studies in California, at Antioch University's Department of Clinical Psychology and the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology at Sofia University. She was guest instructor and lecturer at Tarumanagara University in Indonesia during 2001 and 2005, 2006, and 2008; and in the mid-1970s, Dr. Hedva acted as a field investigator for both the Psychical Research Foundation and the Institute for Parapsychology.
Since 1989 Dr. Hedva has acted as a Clinical Parapsychologist for the Office for Paranormal Investigation in San Francisco and in 1995 accepted the role of Director of Counseling Services for Finkleman Communications in Calgary, Canada. She is also Director of Education and Training for CITIS – the Canadian Institute for Transpersonal and Integrative Sciences -- an organization devoted to sharing and promoting emerging counselling approaches, health sciences and alternative technologies that emphasize organic resources, nature's strategies and self-empowerment.
Dr. Hedva leads unique online training programs and speaking engagements where she is most known for combining ancient spiritual and traditional healing practices with contemporary clinical approaches to offer new and unique strategies for personal and community healing and growth. First trained and licensed as a marriage, family and child counselor, via international conferences and Internet she conducts professional development training programs worldwide and in person provides customized training sessions to individuals, couples, families, groups, communities, associations and institutions.
Notably chosen to lead front line trauma recovery efforts in the two deadliest disasters of this century – the 2004 Asian Tsunami and 2010 Haiti earthquake -- Dr. Hedva was invited to detail the successful results of her program at a United Nations symposium at the UN in New York. She has served on numerous boards of directors within her community for such organizations as the Department of Health Sciences and the For Love of Children Society. Moreover, Dr. Hedva has contributed her time as a spiritual guide for Pleasanton Prison in California and, among other roles, was active on the advisory board of the globally active Association of Trauma Outreach and Prevention.
Dr. Hedva has served as a guest expert on various psychology topics and has made numerous national and international television and radio appearances between 1983 and 2010. She continues to serve as a keynote speaker, lecturer and presenter at many national conferences and presentations since 1982. A successful author, she first released "Journey from Betrayal to Trust: A Universal Rite of Passage" in 1992, followed by the award-winning "Betrayal Trust and Forgiveness: A Guide to Emotional Healing and Self-Renewal" in 2001, third edition, 2013, which is a required reading at Columbia University in New York. Dr. Hedva has contributed numerous articles to various professional and peer reviewed journals as well.
Dr. Hedva first acquired her Bachelor of Science in psychology at Michigan State University in 1977, followed by a Master of Art in transpersonal counseling psychology in the graduate school of consciousness studies, as well as a Master of Arts in clinical psychology from the graduate school of professional psychology at John F. Kennedy University in 1981. Several years later, she completed a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology, with distinction, from the school of health and human services at Columbia Pacific University in 1989.
Among other industry-related organizations, Dr. Hedva is a member of the Parapsychology Association, the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association, the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, the Canadian Psychology Association and the Psychology Association of Alberta. Named International Woman of the Year by the American Biographic Institute in 1997, she was later named to the organization's Hall of Fame for Humanitarian Contributions in Cross-Cultural Psychology in 2009. For her contributions as an author, she was recognized with a 2002 Best Self-Help Book Award by the Coalition of Visionary Resources.
