Supported by decades of professional excellence, Dr. Mitchell currently serves as the associate vice president for instruction and student success at El Paso Community College, where she has held a plethora of roles over the years, including as the dean of health careers, math and science, the director of nursing, the acting division chairman of health occupations, a nursing instructor and a curriculum facilitator. Earlier in her career, she excelled as a nurse practitioner in the U.S. Army Marine Corps. Utilizing her considerable knowledge, Dr. Mitchell has co-authored two editions of "Nursing Perspectives and Issues," as well as a number of articles published in professional journals.
Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Dr. Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Graceland University. As she honed her professional expertise, she returned to academia, obtaining a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas. Dr. Mitchell concluded her studies at New Mexico State University, graduating with a Doctor of Education in educational administration.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Mitchell is affiliated with the Military Order of the World Wars, and the El Paso Commission for Women. Previously, she maintained involvement with the American Legion, the Texas Society of Allied Health Professionals, the National Council of Instructional Administrators, the Texas Nurses Association, the National Council for Workforce Education and the National League of Nursing. In addition to her work, Dr. Mitchell contributed to her community through a plethora of health organizations in the El Paso area.
For her outstanding work in the field, Dr. Mitchell was presented with an Excellence Award from NISOD, a Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Society of Allied Health Professionals, and the Unite El Paso Legacy Award. She was additionally featured in multiple editions of Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
