Mrs. Costanzo has distinguished herself as an artist and arts educator through more than 45 years of service to her students and discipline. Surrounded by the arts while coming of age, she volunteered prolifically with children and led various summer arts classes. During a gap year spent traveling throughout the United States, she realized her calling to become an educator, and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Central Connecticut State University in 1973. In 1979, Mrs. Costanzo was awarded a Master of Arts Education from Rhode Island School of Design. She completed a certificate of advanced study in expressive art therapy at the European Graduate School in Leuk, Switzerland, in 1999.
Since 1985, Mrs. Costanzo has garnered a laudable reputation as an associate professor of art at Elms College. She was the chair of the school's department of visual and performing arts for over 10 years. She also served as Borgia Gallery director and the director of cultural affairs for many years. She has been an invited speaker to institutions in Greece, Mexico, and China. She is a National Endowment for the Humanities grantee and the recipient of a 1985 Outstanding Arts Educator of Mass Award from the Mass Alliance for Arts Education. She was presented with the Who's Who of American Women and Top Educator Awards.
Mrs. Costanzo is a member of the National Art Education Association, Massachusetts Arts Education Association, and the College Art Association, She also served on the board and was Conferences Chairperson for the Massachusetts Arts Education Association. Mrs. Costanzo is proud of the work she has done in preparing her students to become fine artists and educators, and considers the positive feedback she receives from them to be a highlight of her career.
Mrs. Costanzo's artwork has been displayed in group and solitary shows worldwide, and she has been represented in private and corporate collections in the United States and Italy. Mrs. Costanzo has received numerous awards for her artwork. Mrs. Costanzo participated in the first Sino-American Conference on Women's Issues in Beijing, China. She was asked to lecture and exhibited her work on Female Iconography. She is a member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Provincetown Art Association and Museum and the Cape Cod Art Museum. She was presented with the Who's Who Top Artist award.
