An avid listener of the radio as a child, Mr. Kreines began playing music at the age of six. Just two years later, his piano teacher discovered that he had "perfect pitch," which enabled him to hear notes perfectly and apply that to conducting. In the late 1950s, Mr. Kreines began his career as a conductor with the University of Chicago Symphony.
After two years in that role, Mr. Kreines relocated to Florida and became an associate conductor with the Florida Symphony Orchestra, where he remained between 1961 and 1965. Subsequently, he held similar roles with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Florida Orchestra and Treasure Coast Symphony. Today, Mr. Kreines excels as a consultant in the field and as an instrumental music clinician for bands and orchestras.
In a career filled with highlights, Mr. Kreines fondly recalls his first recital, as he was one of seven finalists in a competition of more than 100 students. Throughout his career, he has also had the honor of being affiliated with other notable conductors, composers and musicians. Backed by his considerable knowledge and experiences, Mr. Kreines authored "Music for Concert Band" in 1989 and composed American Song-Set and various original works.
An expert in his field, Mr. Kreines earned a Bachelor of Arts in academia in 1955 and a Bachelor of Arts in music from the University of Chicago in 1956. Subsequently, he obtained a Master of Music from the University of South Florida in 1977. Mr. Kreines retains his professional affiliation with the Music Educators National Conference, the Florida Orchestra Association and the Florida Bandmasters Association, where he was recognized as an honorary life member.
For his outstanding work in the field, Mr. Kreines was selected for a Roll of Distinction in the Hall of Fame for the Florida Bandmasters Association.
