Ms. Timblin is renowned as a writer and consultant with more than 50 years of excellence in magazine and travel journalism. Inspired by the writers in her family, she discovered an early interest in language, and her passion was further supported by her parents and teachers, as well as by her late husband George A. Timblin, their son, daughter, and five grandsons.

She earned an Associate of Arts at Lees-McRae College in 1960 before graduating cum laude from Guilford College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1962. In 1980, she obtained a Master of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Ms. Timblin would conclude her academic efforts at Appalachian State University in 2000 with a Master of Library and Information Science.

In 1962, Ms. Timblin began her career as a teacher for Anne Arundel Schools in Annapolis, Maryland. She further flourished as an editorial assistant for Presbyterian Survey Magazine from 1963 to 1965 and as editor of the Monthly Review of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta from 1965 to 1968. Ms. Timblin was additionally active as a reading assistant for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools from 1978 to 1979.

Since 1980, Ms. Timblin has excelled as a freelance travel writer based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. She also continued her exemplary endeavors in education as a media specialist for Locust Elementary School and Stanly County Schools from 1995 until 2005, at which time she accepted the position of managing editor of Retirement Lifestyles Magazine. Ms. Timblin left that position in 2008 to serve as administrator for the Greater Banner Elk Heritage Foundation. Since 2009, she has devoted most of her time to writing and editing and traveling throughout the world.

Passionate about historic preservation, Ms. Timblin served as founding president of the Mint Hill Historical Society and continues to work toward the restoration and preservation of Historic Bain School (1889) and two historic cemeteries in Mint Hill (1774-1848). An active member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) since 1986, she is the author of several travel guides to the American South and books about regional history. Among other honors, Ms. Timblin has received four awards from the North Carolina Society of Historians and a Distinguished Alumni Award from Lees-McRae College. She was presented with the Lowell Thomas Award from the Society of American Travel Writers and the Discover America Award from the Travel Industry of America in 1988 and the Charles Kuralt Award from the North Carolina Travel Industry Association in 2004.
