After acquiring a degree in law, he began working for his uncle's law firm, Flynn, Powell, McGuirk and Blanchard, where he had the good fortune to establish substantial relationships with clients, won his first argument before the New Hampshire Supreme Court just four months after being admitted to the bar and was assigned his first solo civil jury trial just two-and-a-half years into his career. Following eight years of contributions to his firm, Mr. McGee eventually became a partner at Flynn and McGee and Flynn, McGee and Sanderson in Portsmouth between 1984 and 1991 before establishing his current practice.
As a general practice attorney, Mr. McGee has practiced in all areas of the law. He boasts extensive expertise in estate planning, business advising, real estate, land use planning, workers' compensation and has litigated before Family, District and Superior Courts, as well as the U.S. District Court. Aligned with several legal organizations, including the New Hampshire Bar, the Rockingham County Bar and the Charles C. Doe American Inn of Court, he is likewise active with the Loyal Order of Moose, Elks Lodge #97 and was made a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. McGee has been included in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
Due to his lifelong dedication and commitment to his community, Mr. McGee has played an active role in education, where he was an instructor for Saint Catherine's religious education program between 1977 and 1993. He was also Ward Moderator in Portsmouth, a Chairman of the Portsmouth Republican City Committee and Chairman of the New Hampshire Labor Board of Appeals. Additionally, Mr. McGee has served in several roles with charitable and social organizations, including the New Hampshire Historical Society and the New Hampshire Archaeological Society, is a former member of the Finance Committee for Strawberry Banke, a former Secretary, Vice President and President of the Portsmouth Athenaeum and a former director of the Seacoast African American Cultural Center.
Mr. McGee graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, New Hampshire. Accepted to the prestigious Yale University, he notably studied abroad during his junior year at The School of Irish Studies in Dublin, Ireland, before ultimately receiving a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1972. Three years later, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from William and Mary in 1975. Mr. McGee has been admitted to practice by the New Hampshire Bar Association, the U.S. District Court of New Hampshire, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. McGee married Diane O'Leary, his "high school sweetheart," shortly after college graduation. She was a music teacher in the Portsmouth School System until her retirement in 2005. They have been married for over 47 years.
