Celebrating many years with International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation, Mr. Kirihata was originally appointed in 1986 as a researcher for IBM Research in the Tokyo Research Laboratory in his home country of Japan. There, he was involved in high-speed Dynamic-Random-Access-Memory (DRAM) design development. Transferred to the T.J. Watson Research Center, IBM Research, he eventually joined the IBM Semiconductor Research and Development Center in East Fishkill in 2000 as a design manager involved with the development of high-performance embedded DRAMs and embedded 3D memories. Presently, Mr. Kirihata, Director, Technology and Development, is affiliated with GLOBALFOUNDRIES in Hopewell Junction, NY, and managing the design department for Global Memory Solutions. Mr. Kirihata is leading the research and development for embedded nonvolatile memory for Internet of Things (IoT) and Hardware Security. GLOBALFOUNDRIES is notably an American semiconductor foundry headquartered in Santa Clara, California.
Among his many achievements, Mr. Kirihata was responsible for the architecture and implementation of the embedded system and for fabricating architecture using 3D wafer scale integration. Some of his research interests include high-performance embedded DRAM, embedded non-volatile memory, 3D memory and hardware security. Mr. Toshiaki holds more than 100 U.S. patents in his field.
A talented writer, Mr. Kirihata has scribed three books, "CMOS Processor and Memories", "Circuit for Emerging Applications", and "Circuits and Systems for Security and Privacy." He also authored or co-authored over 30 scholarly articles published through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), as well as an abstract. Furthermore, he has presented many of his papers at the International Solid-State Circuits Conferences (ISSCC), a global forum for presentation of advances in solid-state circuits and Systems-on-a-Chip, between 1998 and 2004. Recognized for his writings, Mr. Kirihata received a Lewis Winner Award for Outstanding Paper for an ISSCC paper he had authored.
Mr. Kirihata received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in precision engineering at Shinshu University in 1984 and 1986, respectively. To remain aware of developments in his field, he has been active as a senior member of the IEEE. He formerly served on the organization's IEEE Custom Integrated Circuits Conference (CICC) committee on memory and was the memory session chair in 2014. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Kirihata has been cited in several editions of Who's Who in America, as well as the 11th edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 18th edition of Who's Who in the World.
