EDMOND, OK, March 17, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James Enderby Bidlack has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. After earning a Bachelor of Science in agronomy, soil and crop option from Purdue University in 1984, Dr. Bidlack subsequently attained a Master of Science in crop physiology from the University of Arkansas in 1986 and a Doctor of Philosophy in plant physiology from the Iowa State University in 1990. Presently, he is a professor of biology and CURE-STEM scholar at the University of Central Oklahoma, the president of the Metabolism Foundation and the vice president and chief science officer of the Genome Registry. Prior to his current roles, Dr. Bidlack found success as an assistant professor within the biology department at the University of Central Oklahoma from 1990 to 1998, and advanced to become an associate professor between 1998 and 2002. He joined the heartland faculty with the Iowa State University, from 1986 until 1990, as a research assistant within the agronomy department. He held the same position at the University of Arkansas from 1984 to 1986, where he had maintained activity as an agronomy laboratory instructor during the prior year. Between 1983 and 1984, Dr. Bidlack continued his career as a lecture demonstrator, lab instructor and tutor for the chemistry department at Purdue University. He inaugurated his career in 1978 as the director of ecology at the Resica Falls Scout Reservation.
A presenter of numerous papers at local and national conferences between 1991 and 2020, Dr. Bidlack is also a renowned writer, having co-authored one textbook, 20 refereed publications, 12 government documents and regional reports, as well as about 75 non-refereed publications and abstracts. He is likewise the co-author of "Stern's Introductory Plant Biology" and is the author to various college textbooks and articles to professional journals. Well-regarded in his field, Dr. Bidlack is also an editorial board member for MERLOT/Biology – in particular, he was gratified to work on the book "Introductory Plant Biology," which is currently in its 15th edition.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Bidlack has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for his work. To wit, he won the House Cup for the MERLOT Biology Editorial Board Team in 2019 and 2012, and was named as the Student Organization Adviser of the Year for the TriBeta Biology Club in 2012. He was also named as an Outstanding Graduate by the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas in 2006, and was bestowed with the Neely Excellence in Teaching Award and Research Opportunity Award as well. From the University of Central Oklahoma, he has been the recipient of the Merit-Credit Award for Service, Merit-Credit Award for Teaching, Merit-Credit Award for Research, Professional Publications Award, Publication and Grant Writing Awards, President's Partners Excellence in Teaching Award and Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Bidlack has twice been the winner of the Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of University Professors, while the Iowa State University has granted him the Premium for Academic Excellence Award and named him among their Visiting Scientist Honorarium.
Dr. Bidlack was introduced to the field of science by his father, a scientist who notably worked on the Manhattan Project, a research and development undertaking during World War II that produced the world's first atomic weapons. Today, he is a life member of the Botanical Society of America, Oklahoma Academy of Sciences, Plant Growth Regulation Society of America, Alpha Chi Sigma and Sigma Xi. Dr. Bidlack is also a member of the American Association of University Professors, the Morta Board Honor Society, the Presbyterian Association on Science, Technology, and the Christian Faith, Beta Beta Beta and Gamma Sigma Delta. In his free time, he enjoys such diversions as farming and bigfoot research.
