Hertzig, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Hertzig celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Having distinguished herself as a psychiatrist and educator for more than four decades, Dr. Hertzig has developed a wide array of expertise with juvenile patients. She felt her interest in psychiatry was serendipitous and organic, and recalls taking an early interest in medicine as a child after reading a book about a doctor working in Central America. Dr. Hertzig attended Vassar College, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts in 1956, and earned a Doctor of Medicine at New York University in 1960.

From 1960 until 1962, Dr. Hertzig completed an internship at the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn, followed by a psychiatric residency at Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital between 1962 and 1964. She subsequently became a research fellow of the New York University School of Medicine from 1964 to 1966. In 1977, Dr. Hertzig joined Cornell University Medical College as an associate professor of psychiatry and as an associate attending psychiatrist at the Cornell Medical Center, rising to the role of a professor in 1995. Between 1977 and 2002, Dr. Hertzig served as the director of the child and adolescent outpatient department at the Payne Whitney Clinic at New York Presbyterian hospital. She remains an attending psychiatrist at the clinic.

Dr. Hertzig served as the interim vice-chairperson of child and adolescent psychiatry at the Weill Medical College at Cornell University from 2002 until 2009. She is the recipient of the New York Council of Child Psychiatry's Hulse Award and was named as one of New York Magazine's Top Doctors each year from 2000 to 2006. Dr. Hertzig is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
