Having joined the faculty at Western Michigan University as a counselor in 1962, Dr. Forsleff advanced along her career ladder to the position of the director, associate vice president, and professor in the school of community health services, where she taught a variety of holistic health courses. She was granted the distinguished title of professor emerita in 1998. Prior to her tenure at WMU, Dr. Forsleff provided testing and research services on behalf of the Kalamazoo Public Schools.

She was also a coordinator for the Professional Exchange Clearing House. Additionally, Dr. Forsleff served as a delegate at the Threads to the Future Conference in New Zealand sponsored by the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a nonprofit research center and direct-experience lab specializing in the intersection of science and human experience.
During her professional career, Dr. Forsleff has written and presented extensively in her field. Most notably, she was a contributing writer and editor of the 1993 publication "An Outline of Sexology." She has been involved with several professional organizations, including the Society for Human Ecology and the Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. Dr. Forsleff was also a member, board of directors, president and past president of the International Association of Counseling Services.
An avid advocate of her community, Dr. Forsleff has been involved with her local United Way and has served on the board of directors for the West Main Neighborhood Association and Homestead Incorporated in Kalamazoo. As a member of the Board of Homestead, she participated in the planning, development and funding of the Ash-Buchanan Apartments, a cluster of apartments for low-income residents in the architectural vernacular of Michigan farmhouses. Dr. Forsleff later presented a paper on this project at Habitat 94, New Frontiers in Housing and Planning, at the Canadian Institute of Planners-International Federation for Housing and Planning (CIP-IFHP) Joint World Congress in Edmonton, Canada, in 1994. Since her retirement, she has continued to attend IFHP annual congresses in European cities, including the IFHP Centenary Congress in London in 2013.
Dr. Forsleff attended Lake Erie College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. She later acquired a Master of Arts from Western Michigan University in 1962 and a Doctor of Philosophy from Michigan State University in 1967. She is a licensed psychologist in the state of Michigan, a national register health service psychologist and a certified practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu. Jin Shin Jyutsu is notably a gentle, non-invasive form of energy medicine which originated in Japan and utilizes unique and detailed diagrams of the major energy channels within the body, which are meant to restore harmony and balance. Well-regarded for her innumerable accomplishments, Dr. Forsleff was bestowed with a faculty research grant from WMU in 1992.
