Dr. Kwak is renowned as a professor emeritus of business administration and decision science with more than 50 years of specialty in mathematical modeling. He initially pursued an education at Seoul National University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Business Administration) in 1955. Subsequently, he earned a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from U.S. International University in 1956. He continued his studies with a Master of Arts from the University of California-Berkeley in 1959 as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (Economics) from the University of Southern California in 1964. Additionally, Dr. Kwak holds a postgraduate certificate in advanced management studies from Carnegie Mellon University in 1976.
From 1964 to 1965, Dr. Kwak began his career as an assistant professor of economics at Eastern New Mexico University. An assistant professor of industrial management at Clemson University until 1968, he further flourished at Saint Louis University in a number of capacities, including as an associate professor of management sciences from 1968 to 1971, a professor of decision science from 1971 to 2012, the chair of the management sciences department from 1975 to 1980, the director of their management sciences doctoral program from 1975 to 1980 and a professor of operations management emeritus since 2012. Dr. Kwak has been also active on the visiting faculty to institutions across the globe, including Beijing Agricultural Engineering University, Shenyang Agricultural University, Texas A&M University, and Dongguk University as a Senior Fulbright Research Scholar and a Distinguished Visiting Professor. In 2002, the Russian Academy of Sciences invited Dr. Kwak to present a research paper on multi-criteria decision-making models in Moscow, Russia.

A fellow of the Haynes Foundation and the Helms Foundation, he was honored as the namesake of the No Kyoon Kwak Faculty Research Award at the Saint Louis University John Cook School of Business. Dr. Kwak is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences, the International Multi-criteria Decision-making Society, and the Fulbright Association.
