Mr. Cusick is renowned as an attorney and judge with more than 40 years of experience in civil litigation and personal injury and disability claims. He initially pursued an education at the University of Virginia, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1970. Subsequently, Mr. Cusick served as an electronics technician repairing encryption equipment in the United States Army from 1970 to 1973.
Upon completion of his military service, Mr. Cusick decided to follow his aspirations of becoming a lawyer. He concluded his academic efforts at the University of Dayton in 1977, earning a Juris Doctor degree and appointment as a law review author and staff member. Mr. Cusick was admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of PA later that year. He was subsequently admitted to the bar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
From 1977 to 1979 was a law clerk in Pittsburgh for the Honorable Joseph Ridge. He later practiced at the firm of Stein and Winters from 1979 to 1982 and Sherry and Campbell in Pittsburgh from 1982 to 1988. He practiced briefly at Houston Harbaugh and Mansmann & McArdle before starting his own firm in Pittsburgh in 1993.
Mr. Cusick found success with his firm and in 2011 was appointed an Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration in Morgantown, WV and later in Seven Fields, PA. In 2014, he was appointed the Hearing Office Chief Administrative Law Judge for the Seven Fields Hearing Office. Judge Cusick continued to serve in this position until his retirement in May 2019.
Mr. Cusick has been active in the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations including as former chair of their Alternate Dispute Resolution committees and member of the PBA's House of Delegates. His interest and training in alternate dispute resolution lead to appointments as mediator or arbitrator for The Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the Better Business Bureau, the U.S. EEOC, U.S. Postal Service, Pittsburgh Mediation Center, American Arbitration Association and others.
Mr. Cusick has been active at St. Bernard Church including as a reader at mass, the South Hills Area YMCA in the parent child programs and as a former chair of its board of management, and the Virginia Club of Pittsburgh as a former president.
Mr. Cusick has received the Chairman's Award twice for volunteer service to the South Hills Area YMCA, was chosen for its hall of fame and was Post Soldier of the Month at Fort Dietrick, MD in January 1973.
