Backed by 50 years of professional expertise, Mr. Walker serves as an adjunct professor of Business for Florida Gateway College and as the city manager for the city of Lake Butler. In the context of his duties, he also teaches between 15 and 20 prisoners who are trying to earn associate degrees. Previously, Mr. Walker gained valuable experience working for the government as the county manager of Macon-Bibb County from 2014 to 2017, and as Macon City, Georgia's chief administrative officer, a role he held during the early-2010s.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Walker excelled as the director of finance for the city of Suffolk, Virginia, and the chief financial officer of the District of Columbia Police and Fire Retirement System from 2008 to 2009, and a director of finance and deputy city manager for Cadillac City between the late 1990s and the late 2000s. Over the years, he also honed his experience in finance as a corporate treasurer with Michigan Baptist Homes, an internal auditor for John Wesley College and the director of finance for the city of Owosso. In a career filled with highlights, Mr. Walker is especially proud of being voted as the chairman of the Michigan Municipal Retirement Council by his peers, as the governor also affirmed the position.
During the early years of his career, Mr. Walker earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Ferris State University before obtaining a Master of Business Administration in finance from Central Michigan University. Subsequently, he also became certified as a government financial manager through the Association of Government Accountants and a credentialed manager through the International City/County Management Association. Mr. Walker retains his professional alignment with the Florida Government Finance Officers Association, the Florida Association of Government Accountants, International City/County Managers Association, and the Association of Government Accountants.
