Prior to establishing his firms, he excelled as a senior land economist for Western Management Consultants, Inc., of Phoenix, Arizona, between 1963 and 1966. Additionally, he taught finance and chaired his respective department at California State University in Los Angeles. Mr. Gobar also flourished in the same academic capacity on the aforementioned university's Fullerton campus as well as in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Southern California and as an economics educator at Whittier College.
A self-made millionaire at the age of 37, Mr. Gobar has often made appearances as a guest lecturer and speaker of special programs at various institutions across the country, including the University of Miami in Florida, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Hawaii, Michigan State University and the University of California at Los Angeles, Berkeley and Irvine. Moreover, he has been a participant at more than 4,000 public speaking engagements, industry seminars and talks throughout his career as well. Widely published, he has contributed more than 250 articles to various scholarly journals, trade magazines and academic publications as an author or co-author over the past 40 years. Likewise, Mr. Gobar was also a contributing editor for Housing, the McGraw-Hill periodical for the homebuilding industry.
Mr. Gobar initially pursued an education at Whittier College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1953 and a Master of Arts in history in 1955. He subsequently graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in economics from the University of Southern California in 1963. In 2005, Mr. Gobar notably obtained an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Whittier College.
Mr. Gobar remains active as a member of the Counselors of Real Estate, from which he accepted a James P. Felt Award, and Lambda Alpha. He was further selected for inclusion among 83 Planners' Favorite Speakers by Meetings & Conventions Magazine in 2010. Additionally, Mr. Gobar was presented with a Max C. Tipton Highest Tribute to Marketing Executives Award from the Sales and Marketing Council of the Building Industry Association of Orange County California.
