Ms. Sally Scinto-Reinertson has proven to be a passionate, compassionate, and vocal advocate for social justice and human rights, and through both her choice of employment and volunteer opportunities, lives her life in the service of others.
Ms. Scinto-Reinertson began employment back in 1979 as a City of Wausau (Wis.) firefighter; the first female firefighter in Central Wisconsin and one of first three in the state, in a field dominated by men and rabid distrust of women in non-traditional roles. She not only endured, but earned EMT status in 1981 and EMT-Intermediate in 1985, MPO/Pump Engineer in 1993 and then again promoted to Fire Lieutenant in 1995. She was also certified as a Hazardous Materials Technician and a Confined Space Specialist. Ms. Scinto-Reinertson spent years on the force responding to medical emergencies and fire suppression and singlehandedly performed a sewer rescue of two unconscious city workers as the only WFD personnel that could successfully be lowered into a confined space. In 1983, Ms. Scinto-Reinertson received the Citation of Meritorious Service Award issued by the Wausau Police & Fire Commission for extreme bravery during a quarry rescue involving a trapped quarry worker. She retired from the Wausau Fire Department in 2003 after 25 years of active service.
Ms. Scinto-Reinertson's humanitarian efforts continued in her off-duty hours also, from being a Girl Scout Leader to member of the Northcentral Technical College Fire Suppression Advisory Committee, from teaching classes to inmates in the Marathon County Jail (and still doing so) to being Chair of the Business & Professional Women's Wausau Organization, and being their finalist for the Wisconsin State Business Woman of the Year. In 2013, she received the Woman of Vision Award from the Wausau YWCA, recognizing her advocacy efforts for enhancing the status of women. She also received the Jefferson Award in 2010 for her work with released female inmates in preventing recidivism. She was Co-Chair of the Wausau Celebration in the early 1980's and organized the Wausau branch of Outdoor Women; for women who wanted to bond with other females while learning to hunt and fish. She currently volunteers for NAOMI of Wausau and the Blessings in a Backpack organization, writes grants for non-profit organizations, and volunteers at the Marathon County Jail and Greater Wausau Christian Services. Ms. Scinto-Reinertson earned her 2-year Lay Ministry Degree from the ELCA East Central Synod of Wisconsin in 2005 and is currently a Lay Minister at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wausau. Ms. Scinto-Reinertson has become locally famous for cooking and has received accolades and a nod from her local newspaper for winning their local cooking contest in 2010.
Ms. Scinto-Reinertson attended CCAR Training for Drug Addiction and is now a certified Recovery Coach for addicts and favors working with released inmates.
After retirement Ms. Scinto-Reinertson found new passion as Head Chef of Timekeeper Distillery in Wausau. Opened in 2018 in the former Milwaukee Railroad train depot, it was formally the iconic representative image for Wausau Insurance Company, known nationally from advertisement on "60 Minutes" programming. She has recently retired as a professional Chef and now volunteers; passionately pursuing issues of hunger, homelessness, and criminal justice reform.
