Inspired by his mother, a nurse, and his father, a deacon, Dr. Anderson pursued a career in medicine, having initially earned a Bachelor of Science from West Virginia University in 1958. Subsequently, he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from Northwestern University in 1961 before completing an internship through Presbyterian Medical Center and a residency through the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research. In the mid-1960s, Dr. Anderson concluded his academic efforts with a Master of Science through the Mayo Foundation.
A retired physician, Dr. Anderson currently parlays his extensive knowledge to others as the president and the founder of HCF Nutrition Research Foundation, and as a professor of medicine and clinical nutrition at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Previously, he provided his expertise to the University of California San Francisco as an assistant professor of medicine. During the 1960s, Dr. Anderson served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army.
Although his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Anderson is especially proud of founding The Obesity Research Network, which retained 20 of the best obesity research doctors and conducted approximately 100 research studies. An expert in his field, he retains his professional alignment with the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, as well as the American College of Nutrition and the American College of Physicians, where he was recognized as a fellow. Backed by his considerable knowledge, Dr. Anderson has authored several works, including "The Simple Diet: A Doctor's Science-Based Plan," "Dr. Anderson's Antioxidant Anti-Aging," "Diabetes – A Practical Guide to Healthy Living" and a paper on Alzheimer's disease, which was published in 2019.
During his spare time, Dr. Anderson contributes to his community as a deacon and Sunday school teacher through his local Baptist churches. Over the years, he also volunteered as a physician with Mission Lexington Medical Clinic and the local Salvation Army Clinic. For his professional accomplishments, he was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and the Marquis Who's Who Humanitarian Award. Publications such as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World have honored him for his achievements. Looking toward the future, Dr. Anderson intends to complete his biography.
