Dr. Vachon is renowned as an engineer and an attorney with a career spanning more than six decades. He pursued an education at the U.S. naval Academy and Auburn University, earning a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1958 and a Master of Science in Nuclear Science in 1960. He received a Ph.D. in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1963. Dr. Vachon concluded his academic efforts at Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in 1969, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws. Admitted to practice law by the Alabama State Bar in 1971 and before the US Supreme Court in 1982 He served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve from 1960 to 1991 retiring as a Colonel after serving during Desert Storm, Dr. Vachon is registered as a professional engineer in six states throughout the United States as well as in the United Kingdom and Europe.
In 1958, Dr. Vachon began his career as an engineer for Hayes International prior to accepting a position with E.I. DuPont as a research and development engineer in 1960. Additionally flourishing as an aerospace engineer and technologist at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center for NASA in 1964. He found further success at Auburn University in a number of capacities between 1958 and 1978, including as an instructor, a research assistant, a research associate and a chaired professor. He served as an adjunct professor at Purdue University. Dr. Vachon has also been active as the president of Vachon Nix &. Associate from 1977 to 1984 and Thacker Engineering from 1981 to 1990.
Working as the head of VNA Systems Inc. from 1984 to 1992. Dr. Vachon contributed as the president of COMPRIS from 1991 to 1992. The chairman of Direct Measurements Inc. from 1999 to 2016, he has excelled as the chair of Vachon Global since 2016. Appointed as a science and technology advisor to the United States Department of Homeland Security, he is the recipient of the Pan-American Academy of Engineering's Engineer Statesman Award for his contributions to sustainable technology. Likewise, Dr. Vachon has been recognized as a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and an Associate of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. an Honorary Member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Fellow of International Nuclear Engineering Academy, and Fellow and President of the Pan American Academy of Engineering.
