As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Pennington has performed as a singer and frequent soloist with the Cantate Chamber Singers, and in addition has provided her expertise to the group as a board member, treasurer, and gala chair. In her local community, Dr. Pennington is a member of A Musical Heart, which performs professional-caliber music for hospice patients, and serves as a member of the church growth committee at St. John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square.
Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Dr. Pennington pursued a formal education at the University of Georgia, from which she attained a Bachelor of Science in 1985. Following this accomplishment, she attended the University of Florida, where she earned a Master of Science in 1988, after which she graduated from Emory University with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1993.
