Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude, in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and earned both a Doctor of Jurisprudence and a Master of Business Administration at Seton Hall University. An excellent student and an intuitive test-taker, Mr. Gearty passed all four portions of the CPA exam in one sitting. Mr. Gearty has also earned the AICPA designation as a Chartered Global Management Accountant.
In addition to his work at Gearty & McIntyre, for which he managed a client portfolio of Fortune 500 companies, Mr. Gearty has earned distinction as a national lecturer for Becker Gearty CPE, and Becker CPA Review, a company providing multimedia CPA exam prep materials, since 1980. Prior to merging with Becker Professional Education, he established and ran Fox Gearty CPA Review, a similar company. In 1999, Mr. Gearty was named as the national lead instructor and editor in chief of Becker Professional Education, under whose auspices he provides study materials and is the National Lead Instructor for more than 30,000 CPA candidates each year.
Mr. Gearty has been a trustee of the New Jersey Society of CPAs and sits on the advisory board of the Fairleigh Dickinson School of Business. He has been named as one of Accounting Today's Top 100 Most Influential People in the Accounting Industry, and is the recipient of Corporate LiveWire's Innovation and Excellence in Education Award. He was awarded the Corporate Insider's Excellence in Professional Education Service.
