As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Now retired from a very rewarding career as an associate pastor and cantor at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Topeka, Kansas, Rev. Goetz retired in 2018 after more than 35 incredible years. Prior to his tenure at Saint John's, he garnered a laudable reputation as an associate pastor, organist and choirmaster at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota, for more than a decade. Other noteworthy roles to his credit have included teaching at Walther Lutheran Junior High School in Saint Paul from 1968 to 1980 and in several capacities with the Kansas District Lutheran Church between 1985 and 2000, including as an archivist. Additionally, Rev. Goetz served as an organist recitalist for various area Lutheran churches for more than 40 years, until 2011, and continued to play the organ at St. John's for a year after his retirement.
Rev. Goetz authored two books, "The Descendants of Johann Georg Götz" in 1976 and "Double Cousins by the Dozens" in 1982. He is a former editor of "A Century of Grace: Centennial History of the Kansas District, 1888-1988." He also authored and co-authored articles published to various professional journals, including the Lutheran Witness and Concordia History Institute Quarterly. In addition to his writing contributions, Rev. Goetz is a published composer of music.
Rev. Goetz's desire to study chemistry was inspired by the affinity he held for his father, a chemistry major who taught the subject at Iowa State University. However, upon realizing that his passion for music was much greater, he instead chose to proselytize his faith. Rev. Goetz has notably held a Bachelor of Science in chemistry since 1962 and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics since 1967, both earned at Iowa State University. Subsequently matriculating at Concordia Theological Seminary, he attained a Master of Divinity in systematic theology in 1967, and next earned a Master of Sacred Theology in church music from Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1972. Rev. Goetz has earned distinction as an ordained minister through the Lutheran Church since 1968.
A dedicated civic advocate, Rev. Goetz has been active with the Topeka Lutheran School Board of Education. He also twice served as a Republican precinct committee member in Topeka. Rev. Goetz is a member of the American Guild Organists, where he twice found success as the chapter president and chaplain and a third time as chapter president. He is also a member of the honorable societies of Alpha Chi Sigma and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. A celebrated Marquis listee, Rev. Goetz has been highlighted in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Religion, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
