WAUKEE, IOWA, April 14, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Teresa Wahlert has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Teresa Wahlert began her career as an assistant analyst in Data Systems for Northwestern Bell in Omaha, NE, holding a variety of positions in data systems and accounting. She became District Manager – Finance at AT&T headquarters in New York in 1981 then returned to Omaha in 1983 as a General Finance Manager, and Assistant Vice President – Finance for U S WEST in 1986. In 1995, Wahlert became the first female to head the firm's Iowa operations, employing 2,300 people serving 750,000 customers. She directed the firm's legislative efforts that resulted in the passage of many major bills dealing with telecommunications regulation. She retired from QWEST in 2002 after 32 years of service.
In 2003, Wahlert was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Des Moines Partnership where she had operational oversight and fund-raising efforts for this public/private partnership. Efforts were focused on maintaining strategic alliances among business, education, and governmental entities throughout many central Iowa communities.
In 2004, Wahlert was named President and Chief Operating Officer of Mid-America Group, a regional real estate, investment, and development firm specializing in owning and managing Class A office complexes, industrial and commercial business parks, residential land development and brokerage, and various other investment projects. She retired from this position at the end of 2008.
Terry Branstad returned as Governor of Iowa in 2011 and appointed Teresa Wahlert as the Director of Iowa Workforce Development. In this position she led the agency to help meet the Governor's goals to create 200,000 jobs in Iowa, reduce the cost of government by 15%, increase family incomes by 25%, and make Iowa number one in the nation for education. She retired from this position in Jan. 2015.
Wahlert has served as a member Wells Fargo of Iowa Community Board, the Salt River Fields@Talking Stick Board, and a member of the MIT Mentorship program. She has been named Business Record Female Business Woman of the Year, Business Record Woman of Influence, and was a 2004 inductee into the Iowa Business Hall of Fame.
A native of Dubuque, Wahlert is featured in the book, Success On Our Own Terms. She holds a Master's of Science in Business degree as a Sloan Fellow from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as a Masters in Business Administration from Creighton University and a Bachelors of Science from St. Mary's College at Notre Dame.
Wahlert lives in Waukee, Iowa with her husband, Howard.
