After graduating from high school, Mr. Threat entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1964 until 1993. Throughout the years, he advanced through the grades to become command sergeant major, serving in the U.S. Army Information Systems Command. Upon retiring from his military position, Mr. Threat began working for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as an account representative.
Mr. Threat also wanted to teach high school and worked a substitute teacher in order to earn a teaching license. In 1997, he returned to military service, serving as a technical control representative and then chief of the Electronics Service Branch at Fort McPherson in Georgia. He served in this position until retiring in August 2011.
For his efforts as a military non commissioned officer, Mr. Threat has received several honors. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal Ninth Award, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. Most recently, he received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who's Who.
In addition, as a respected voice in his field, Mr. Threat has contributed articles to various magazines and newspapers in Fort Huachuca and Sierra Vista, Arizona. He attributes his many professional successes to his mother, who introduced him and his eight siblings to the Christian faith and was instrumental in his education. He also received mentorship from countless educators, pastors and military officers throughout his career and education.
In retirement, Mr. Threat maintains professional affiliation with the National Rifle Association, the Non Commissioned Officers Association, AFCEA International, the Signal Corp Regimental Association, the Tucson Rod and Gun Club, the Cochise Gun Club, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. As a retired veteran, he has been most proud to have had the opportunity to mentor young men and women in service to the nation. Looking toward the future, he hopes to continue mentoring young people who want to enter military service.
