He served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard from 1945 until 1946, and subsequently attended the Art Center College of Design, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1951. From 1951 until 1953, Mr. Anderson maintained activity as the art director for McCann Erickson in New York City. He further excelled as the art director for Cunningham and Walsh in 1953, and departed in 1955 to join Batten, Barton, Durstine and Osborne, where he would remain until 1963. Since 1963, Mr. Anderson has been in freelance practice as an illustrator and painter based in Sonoma, California.
Mr. Anderson's work includes illustration for the children's book "Oscar Lincoln Busby Stokes," published in 1970. His work has been exhibited in group and solo shows across the United States since the 1960s, including exhibitions at the Fort Worth Art Center, the Palace of Fine Arts, and the Rosicrucian Museum. Mr. Anderson is the recipient of more than half a dozen national prizes for his work, noted for its wry spirit and playful line quality. He is a member of the Society of Western Artists, where he has served as a trustee since 1993.
