Originally working as an assistant professor at his alma mater, Texas A&M University, in 1979, he was later hired by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in Washington, D.C. In subsequent years, he served as the deputy assistant director of consumer protection, the assistant director of trade regulation rules and as an advisor to the chairman. Dr. Nash was later acquired by the World Bank in 1988, where he remained for the duration of his career. Working his way up to the position of the lead economist of the sustainable development department for Africa, he retired in 2015.

After retiring he also worked as a consultant for the International Food Policy Research Institute and the office of the deputy prime minister of the Kurdish autonomous region of Iraq. An alumnus of Texas A&M University, Dr. Nash received a Bachelor of Science in 1975. Shortly thereafter, he transferred to the University of Chicago, where he acquired both a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1978 and 1982, respectively.
In addition to authoring numerous articles in scholarly journals, Dr. Nash has authored and co-authored over a dozen books. In recent years, these include "Reaping Richer Returns: Public Spending Priorities for More Productive African Agriculture" in 2016, "Highways to Success or Byways to Waste: Estimating the Economic Benefits of Roads in Africa" in 2015, "Agricultural Exports from Latin America and the Caribbean: Harnessing Trade to Feed the World and Promote Development" in 2014, " Natural Resources in Latin America: Beyond Booms and Busts?" in 2010, "Vulnerable Places, Vulnerable People" in 2010, "Low Carbon High Growth: Latin American Responses to Climate Change" in 2009, and "Reforming Agricultural Trade for Developing Countries" in 2007. Dr. Nash has been a proud member of several industry-related organizations, including the American Economic Association and is active with the Libertarian Party.
Honored by the FTC with an Excellence in Economics Award in 1984, Dr. Nash later received an AMEX Bank Review Award for Research in 1989 and a World Bank Agriculture Award for Analytical Work in 2016 and 2017. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in approximately 30 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business and Who's Who in the World. Outside of his professional circles, Dr. Nash enjoys such avocations as scuba diving, playing tennis, and running.
