Celebrating more than 35 years in education, Mr. Bomboy dedicated his first two years in the classroom toward teaching mathematics at the East Palestine City School district, in Ohio, between 1975 and 1977. Relocating back to his home state of Pennsylvania, he was subsequently hired by Marion Center Area School District, where he taught mathematics and served as the director of athletics and the director of community services. Mr. Bomboy retired in 2014 after having worked for more than 30 years with the district. Since concluding his career in education, he has worked as a volunteer, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center and as a certified volunteer with the Pet Therapy program registered with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Mr. Bomboy was an instructor with the National Athletic Administrators Association Leadership Training Institute.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Bomboy pursued a formal education at Clarion State University, from which he attained a Bachelor of Science in 1975. He concluded his academic efforts in 1980, graduating from the aforementioned university with a Master of Science. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Bomboy is a certified secondary teacher in Ohio and Pennsylvania and a certified master athletic administrator through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
Engaged with several industry-related organizations, Mr. Bomboy has served as the treasurer of District VI Athletic Directors Association, the secretary-treasurer of the Appalachian Conference and the Heritage Conference. Likewise, he has been active in numerous capacities for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Director's Association. Other memberships to Mr. Bomboy's credit include the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Wrestling Officials and, among others, the board of the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Bomboy's standout accomplishments have earned him various recognitions, most notably by being named as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Director of Year for 2005. He later received a National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators State Award of Merit in 2012 and a Distinguished Service Award from Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association in 2014. He was also inducted into the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.
