ROCKVILLE, MD, April 20, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present J. Thomas Hickman with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Hickman celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Hickman is renowned as a retired teacher and educational administrator celebrating more than 36 years of service to his students and staff. Believing that he was called to education, he was a naturally curious and gifted student who became excited about learning and creating. Hoping to share his passion with others through teaching, Mr. Hickman earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and science from Wittenberg University as well as a master's degree in educational administration at the George Washington University.
From 1975 to 2001, Mr. Hickman found success as a middle school principal in Montgomery County, Maryland. A firm believer in the concept of middle school, he points to his own career as proof of the unique emotional and social needs of young adolescents. During his tenure as principal, Mr. Hickman helped completely change the academic reputation of his school, eventually obtaining a U.S. Government Excellence in Education Award and several grant disbursements while also piloting a behavioral support program for low-performing students.
Moreover, Mr. Hickman has served as the chairman of the board of the Montgomery County Teachers Federal Credit Union for 20 years. He formerly flourished as an adjunct professor at the George Washington University from 2001 to 2005 as well. Active in myriad educational and community political initiatives, Mr. Hickman worked as a past president of the Montgomery County Retired Educators Association, with which he remains involved on the board and as the chair of the insurance and healthcare committee since 2001.
Among many other honors, Mr. Hickman is the recipient of Excellence in Leadership Awards from the Montgomery County Council and the Maryland Senate, and a Certificate of Recognition for his work as the chair of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services' child support working group. While he remains proud of his professional achievements, he still considers meeting his wife of more than 60 years, Carolyn, to be his greatest triumph. In the coming years, Mr. Hickman hopes to continue his efforts to support other educators.
