Having accrued more than 40 years of expertise in the field of historiography, Dr. Ross has garnered a laudable reputation as a historian, educator and writer. She attended Michigan State University, graduating in 1967 from the Honors College with a Bachelor of Arts in History, concentrating on ancient history and the early medieval period. and was proud to have succeeded as a woman in academia during a time when cultural expectations for women were different. Dr. Ross earned a Master of Arts at Loyola University in 1971, and completed a Doctor of Philosophy in history at the University of Illinois in 1978.
From 1979 until 1994, Dr. Ross served as an instructor at Oakton Community College, and a correspondent and columnist at Lerner Newspapers in Des Plaines, Illinois. She continued her career as a visiting professor at the University of Illinois during the 1984 to 1985 academic year, and taught at DePaul University from 1988 until her retirement in 2006. During her time at DePaul, Dr. Ross created curriculum and pioneered courses in women's history, the Holocaust, and several topics relevant to Chicago cultural history, including a course on the Chicago Cubs.
Between her journalism and historical work, Dr. Ross authored more than a thousand papers and articles, and delivered presentations at professional conferences and workshops across the United States and Eastern Europe. Throughout a career suffused with highlights, she was particularly proud to have delivered a presentation on local Cook County politics in Lodz, Poland to an audience that included Lech Walesa. Dr. Ross has also been a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Political Marketing and a guest editorial writer for Pioneer Press. She is a founding member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi chapter at DePaul University, and served as its secretary and president. Since 2008, Dr. Ross has served on the board of Traditions & Hope, Inc., a national and international 501C3 non-profit, specializing in business development and education in developing areas. Dr. Ross serves as that charity's Executive Director.
