Dr. Ascher has been aligned with the New York University (NYU) Langone Hospital in Brooklyn as its Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery since 2012. He is currently a Professor of Surgery at New York University. Dr. Ascher has served as President of the most prominent institutions in the world including the Society for Vascular Surgery, the World federation of Vascular Societies and the International Society for Vascular Surgery. In addition, he was also elected to the presidency of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery and the Eastern Vascular Society. Because of his multiple academic and over 300 scientific publications in peer reviewed journals Dr. Ascher has been an honorary guest lecturer in many Universities across the United States and abroad. Also, he is an active member of the prestigious American Surgical Association and has served as a Governor of the American College of Surgeons.

Hundreds of young medical students, surgical residents and fellows have been mentored under the tutelage of Dr. Ascher. His passion for teaching was best reflected during his tenure as a successful program director of an accredited ACGME vascular residency program for many years. He is the chief-editor of the 5th and 6th editions of the famous treatise in vascular surgery known as the Haimovici's Vascular Surgery through Blackwell Publishing.

Dr. Ascher successfully graduated from the vascular fellowship program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine under the directorship of the world renowned Dr. Frank J. Veith. Motivated by the teachings of this great surgeon Dr. Ascher was motivated to further extend the limits of limb salvage and avoid major amputation in patient who would otherwise be confined to a wheelchair. He developed several surgical and endovascular techniques to avert major amputations and became a referral center for complex cases that required his expertize. Additionally, he is a pioneer in endovascular interventions performed under ultrasound guidance alone. Thanks to his scientific contributions physicians can now do balloon angioplasties and many other procedures without subjecting their patient to radiation exposure and potentially harmful contrast material both required during standard procedures. Dr. Enrico Ascher is also recognized for creating a procedure called "mini-incision carotid endarterectomy" that shortens the incision required to perform a stroke prevention operation from an average of six inches long to one inch.

Dr. Ascher was one of the first physicians to recognize the need to address more thoroughly patients who are suffering from advanced venous disease with resultant loos of work days, pain, swelling and eventually ulceration that can take months to heal. His aggressive approach to these conditions has resulted in excellent results with improvement of symptoms and healing of ulcers rather quickly. A couple of years ago, he was named as a Hero of the Month by the President of the borough of Brooklyn. Dr. Ascher is a celebrated Marquis listee who was featured in the 63rd edition of Who's Who in America.
